Hooray for color!

We’re designing away here at EQ. My latest obsession is the color red-orange. I thought it would be fun to design a quilt with poppies. The poppy quilt design drifted from appliqué, to pieced, to paper-pieced and finally to paper-pieced kaleidoscope blocks. I thought our in-house quilter, Margaret, was going to shoot me when I showed her the design, but it has turned out to be the most fun project. Margaret has taken to this project like a fish to water. It is so amazing watching these flowers come together.

Each of the five poppies vary slightly in pattern and color. We found every shade of red, red-orange, rust, orange, yellow-gold, yellow-green, eggplant, olive, and black that we could and started stacking them in piles. Some of the fabrics just begged to be the focal fabric in the petals. Other fabrics were directional and looked amazing in the center octagon.

We’re still trying to work out the balance and may re-do a flower, using the old flower as a pillow.

Keep an eye out for the finished product.

Best Wishes,

This is the new Electric Quilt Weblog… a.k.a. EQ Blog.

We’re moving away from our Floppy Gazette format to a new frequently updatable log. This way, we don’t have to hold on to your stories and wait for enough information to write a gazette. We can post information as it comes to us. It’s exciting for us to be able to offer you EQ and quilting related stories as we get them in.

Anyway, be patient as we figure this new format out and get images, text, and more on this blog.

Best Wishes,
Andrea
