Hi Janet,
Since we know the disc is fine, I'll give you the whole, long list of steps we use whenever a computer fights an installation. It's good you've already copied to your desktop, as that is one of the steps:
1. First look at the CD and make sure it is clean. If it is, insert the CD. If an installation starts up, click Cancel and Exit Setup. Leave the CD in.
2. Restart your computer.
3. Turn off User Account Control (UAC):
* Go to START > Control Panel.
* Change the drop-down to "small icons" (Windows 7).
* Double-click Users.
* Choose "Turn user account control on/off."
* Uncheck it.
* Restart your computer, if necessary.
4. Empty out the temp folder.
Click START > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk CleanUp.
Choose C drive, if given the option. Wait for the progress bar (even if it looks like it is not responding... it's just thinking really hard.) Check "Temporary Files" near the bottom of the list only.
Click OK.
5. Empty out the other temp folder.
Go to START > (My) Computer.
Double-click C drive > Windows > Temp.
Select All (CTRL+A on your keyboard.)
Press your keyboard Delete key.
Click Skip for anything that gives you an error.
Close this window when you're done.
6. Turn off programs running in the background:
* Near your clock in the Taskbar in the bottom-right corner of your screen are a bunch of mini icons representing some of the programs that are open and could be interfering. Right-click as many as possible and choose the option that sounds most like:
Exit, Turn Off, Shut Down, Close, Snooze for ___ minutes (You won't be able to turn off your monitor, mouse, or sound.)
7. Rename the Installshield folder:
* Go to START > Computer > C drive > Program Files > Common Files (If you don't see "Common Files" there check the Program Files x86 folder instead.)
* Right-click the Installshield folder, and then click Rename.
* Type Installshield1, and then press ENTER.
8. Bypass the CD-drive by installing from a folder on your computer: [you can skip this since you've already done it]
* Go to START > (My) Computer.
* Right-click the CD drive and choose Open or Explore. You should be able to see all the files and folders on the CD.
* Press CTRL+A on your keyboard to select all.
* Press CTRL+C on your keyboard to copy the files.
* Now create a new folder on your desktop and Paste (CTRL+V) the copied files and folders into your new folder.
9. Run the installation from the new folder:
* Finally: open the new folder, find the SETUP file that is an application file (it will look like white arrows on a lt. blue field, and says "setup launcher" when you hover the mouse over it) and double-click it to start the installation.
